My Individual Piece incorporates the style of De Stijl. It was not till after I had committed to the idea of a Rubik’s Cube that learned about Stijl and as soon as I discovered him, it became obvious that this would be the style I use.

Half the colours on a standard Rubik’s Cube are blue, red, and yellow… coincidently the same three colours that Stijl uses in his work. Throughout my project I show three sides of a Rubik’s cube so it only made sense to produce a simplified colour version expressing similar characteristics. E.g. Basic colours, simple, squares.
